IED Semester and Year Abroad programs
provide the opportunity to develop
personally and get prepared for the next
undergraduate studies or provide
additional professional training and
IED Semester and Academic year courses propose a
wide and update synthesis of the Italian know-how,
giving a view of the most significant trends of Interior
design and Fashion industry.
Different subjects are offered in the autumn and spring
semesters, but each combines academic study with an
insight into the professional design world and takes ful
advantage of the rich cultural resources that Milan and

theoretical lessons, cultural field trips and workshops.
The fall semester is dedicated to understanding the
design methodology while developing and improving
project-based skills and competences.
This semester is structured around the major
international Fall trade shows in Italy including:
Architect@work and SAIE ( International Building
Exhibition ) in Bologna.
This course is intended for motivated students
interested in learning the fundamentals of Interior
design and who are interested in pursuing further
study or a career in the design industry.

Applicants must be 18 years by the end of the year
in which the course starts.
Applicants must have a high intermediate level of
English in order to enroll in the program Level 5.5
IELTS (68 TOEFL IBT or equivalent) is recommended.
To prove the necessary language proficiency the
applicant has to present a language certificate issued
by authorised bodies or undergo the IED online
language assessment test.
To comply with the IED entry requirements and its
strict level of quality, and in order to guarantee the
effective interaction among instructing staff and
students, IED has a restricted number of available
places to its Semester and Academic Year Programs.
Applicants are processed on a “first come first served”
basis. Student enrollment is confirmed once the
application process is complete and enrolment fee
paid in full.
All non-European Union students residing in Italy for
more than 90 days are required to have a student visa.
Student visas are issued by Italian Consulates in the
student’s country of residence. The requirements to
apply for the student visa may differ from consulate

Students are strongly encouraged to check with their
own Embassy/Consulate about best timing to apply
for visa, according to jurisdiction in their country
At the end of the study abroad programs students who
have successfully attended at least 80% of each course,
including fieldtrips and course-related, and had
successfully passed all the examinations activities
will receive the certificate of attendance. Exceptions
for medical and personal emergencies are handled on
a case-by-case basis. Students are required to sit and
pass successfully each examination, if provided.
The examinations are successfully passed when
students achieve a mark between 18 and 30 out of 30,
obtain a positive judgment, or an assessment between
“sufficient” and “excellent “.
Through the Interior Design Academic year program
students get an in-depth and practical introduction to
Italian design and the ‘Made in Italy’ concept with
particular attention to contemporary trends, while
being equipped with all the necessary instruments to
enter this field. Students learn to design interior spaces
both for commercial and residential use, starting from
the initial concept and first sketch to the 3D view, and
with the realization of a model representing a public
space. Participants investigate the relationship between
location, design and space researching and analysing
their influences on emotions combined with
